With my 10 years studying and working experience in the US., I got to know many routines of writing a competitive personal statement, which would spice up the story in many essays. Most of the time, we don’t have to use fancy words like what many of our students usually do. The more important is about the structure of the paper. How you show your professional abilities; how you express your specialties; what your critical thinking is and so on.
I have chat with many students in the last four years with various background, who had the same goal: Architecture! Some of them have landscape or urban planning background in undergraduate; some of them have a completely opposite discipline with architecture like psychology, or chemistry. Me, for example, got Bachelor of mathematics and fine arts ended up with studying architecture in graduate school. Even though the students have different background, they all have passion on architecture, which enriches their personal experience.
